We are Expanding

We’ve been busy recently making a few additions and improvements at our office and storage facility. We’ve added eight 20 foot shipping containers (accessible 24/7) to our site, boosting our storage capacity from 64 up to 72 storage units.

We offer a range of unit sizes and are happy to offer you accessible storage solutions for either residential or commercial contents – whether short or long term.

And we’ve just added an extra bathroom for both staff and clients’ use, significantly enhancing the functionality of the building.

We are fortunate to have premises offering great accessibility, plenty of space, parking and options for the future.

New Storage Options

We’re pleased to be underway with a site development project at our main premises (11 Tarndale Grove, Albany) in order to provide new storage options and parking to our premises. We have just received Auckland Council consent to add a new vehicle crossing (driveway entrance) and increase our yard space. So we’ll soon have additional parking and space for up to eight 20 foot shipping containers for clients’ short term or long term storage.

It unfortunately means making significant alterations to the shiny fence we added only in 2015!

But the addition of shipping container storage units will add to our 64 permanent units housed within our main warehouse. High security will be maintained, with high definition CCTV and monitored security systems in place.

We have a range of unit sizes from 25 cubic metres up to 43 cubic metres, and can also accommodate smaller space requirements. All of our units have furniture blankets in them, to keep your possessions protected whilst stored.

And our friendly team are of course happy to assist you with your moving needs in or out of storage. Call us on 0800 36 36 10, submit an enquiry online or email us direct.

How To Get Ready To Sell Your Home

Are you thinking of selling your home? Every seller wants their home to sell fast and achieve top dollar.  Trish Leddy from Harcourts Cooper & Co has kindly offered some tips on how to get ready to sell your home.

7 ways on how to get ready to sell your home and make your home more attractive to buyers

Purchasing a home is both a financial and emotional decision so the look and feel of your home will be an important factor in attracting interested buyers.

Here are Trish’s top tips for helping you prepare your home for the market:

1. First impressions count

What will people see the first time they walk up to your house? Make sure your property has ‘curbside appeal’ with a well-maintained fence, driveway, letterbox, front door, lawns, hedging, and exterior. Outdoor living is a big selling point so make your outdoor space inviting.

2. Declutter

Remove clutter from your home and put it in storage. This includes oversized or too much furniture, large bench top appliances, and personal items like photographs, CDs, books and magazines. This will make your home appear bigger and allow buyers to picture themselves in the space.

The Smooth Mover will be able to help with your declutter move to storage. If their units are too large they are happy to recommend and move you to one of the more reputable storage facilities that offer smaller units.

3. The personal touch

Your house should feel like a home. Once you’ve decluttered, a few personal touches such as flowers, a bowl of fruit on your kitchen counter, and a pot plant here and there will do wonders to help buyers feel like your property could be their dream home.

4. Freshen up your walls with a coat of paint

Use a neutral, light shade to make your home appear more spacious. This also gives prospective buyers a blank canvas to visualise what they would do with a room. Don’t forget to paint or varnish the doors too.

5. Make your home sparkle

Clean every room in your home, including the windows inside and out. In particular, ensure your bathroom sparkles, remove any mould and replace your shower curtain. While you’re cleaning, you should eliminate the source of any unpleasant odours inside and outside your home. A bad smell will quickly turn off prospective buyers.

6. Do necessary repairs

Buyers don’t want to spend their time or money doing repairs to a home they’ve just bought. You can remove that barrier by fixing anything off its hinges, replacing broken tiles, repairing holes in walls etc. Replace threadbare carpet and ensure wooden floors are well maintained. Give your home some TLC so that buyers know that it’s been well looked after.

7. Brighten your home

Aim for soft lighting throughout the home and bright light in the kitchen and bathroom. Use lamps to brighten dark corners. If you have old curtains or blinds, take them down and replace them with basic cotton or linen ones and make sure they are tied back to make the most of any natural light. Make sure you replace burnt out light bulbs.

It may sound like a lot of work, but doing these simple things, can really pay dividends by helping you to attract interested buyers. Remember, you’re not just selling a property but a potential new lifestyle for the homeowner so put yourself in their shoes when preparing your home.

When to Book your Furniture Removal

Below are some useful tips for when to book your furniture removal with The Smooth Mover.

BOOKING YOUR FURNITURE REMOVAL

Contact us, as soon as you have a settlement, rental move or new build completion date.  You are welcome to contact us before this for our rates.

If you are planning a move around a public holiday make sure you get in quick! as the week prior to or following a long weekend tend to get booked up pretty fast.

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are high demand days for the moving industry, so book well in advance if you require one of these days.

If you do have a choice of moving dates, or you haven’t yet set a date for your settlement move, opt for a Monday to Wednesday.  The Smooth Mover offers discounted rates for these days.  It will also be easier to get your move booked.

If you have a last minute move, please check with us, on occasion we do have clients postpone their moves so spaces do come available at short notice.

ESTIMATING THE QUANTITY OF YOUR FURNITURE REMOVAL

In most cases your move will be before or after another move (unless your move requires a whole day).  When booking please tell us as much about your move as you can, such as

  • Indicative quantity of goods to be moved (if you are moving house, the number of bedrooms, lounges, study, rumpus is a good indicator). Don’t forget garage, extra storage areas and outdoor items.
  • Any special/difficult items (eg. piano, side-by-side fridge, trampoline, antiques, spa, lots of pot plants).
  • Access difficulties at either property (are there are lots of stairs involved, a lengthy walk from the property to the truck parking space, or is there a particularly steep, narrow or winding driveway?)

Informing us of these things in advance will ensure we are fully prepared for your move, and schedule sufficient time to complete your move without delaying our subsequent customers.

Special items that require movingDURATION OF A FURNITURE REMOVAL

There are many variables that can affect the time it takes to move your home.

  • Level of preparedness – the more prepared you the are the faster the whole move will be.
  • Weather – wet weather can slow a move, care of your items and our staff are paramount.
  • Access conditions – difficult access can add time to the move especially if the items need to be walked a distance to the truck.
  • Number of Men – different sized homes require different number of men.  Read more about our Third Man.

Removal and Storage Options

The Smooth Mover is expanding! We are proud to offer both a Removal and Storage Options to our customers from the 1st August 2015.  We will be moving to our new premises at 11 Tarndale Grove, Albany, taking over and maintaining the good work currently being done by Safe T Storage.

The warehouse contains purpose built storage units that come in 3 sizes.

25cbm    2.4 x 4.5m suitable for a 2brm home or flat
33cbm    2.4 x 6.0m suitable for a 2/3 brm home
42cbm    2.4 x 7.5m suitable for 3brm – moderate 4brm home.

The secure, clean, dry storage units are suitable for household effects, commercial stock holdings or document storage.  All units are easily accessible and with our solitary structural design, it makes loading and unload a breeze on those wet miserable days.

This not only protects your personal effects from being rain damaged while loading into storage it also prevents mildew from developing on them during your stay.

Building ready for a new coat of paint and security fencing

Furniture blanks (the same as used in our removal trucks) are supplied in each unit to cover and protect your furniture while being stored, so international wrapping of your effects isn’t necessary.  More floor area is available per cubic metre in our units and a low ceiling height of only 2.4 high, makes stacking easier (no steps required) and reduces the pressure placed on the items below.

24 hour monitored security alarm is installed and security patrols inspect the premises at night.  A separate fire alarm system incorporating smoke and heat sensors are linked directly to the Fire Service.

So now The Smooth Mover can offer both removal and storage options for a complete package.

Stay tuned as our website gets an update with more storage information.

Thank you to all our clients, without your support we wouldn’t be heading in this great direction.

Storage Packing Tips

Hi all, here are some great storage packing tips if you are planning on storing your household items, these tips will maximise your space and prevent damage to your belongings.

A lot of these tips are used by the Smooth Mover as standard practices and also from personal experience of storing household items.

  • Make sure that all your white linen, clothes etc are washed before storing.  After a period of time any trace of sweat or grease will turn your whites yellow.
  • Use sturdy boxes so they can be stacked on top of each to maximise the height of the storage unit.
  • If you are storing wine, check out storage facilities that offer climate control.
  • Make sure that you number all your boxes and keep an inventory of what is in those boxes, you may need to find something whilst everything is in storage. When you move to your new place an inventory will help in telling our guys where each box needs to go.
  • Don’t cover furniture with plastic, this can lead to condensation and mildew issues.
  • Remove petrol from lawnmowers and clean all your garden implements.
  • If able pack all your electronic equipment such as computers, tv, stereo’s in their original packing.
  • Roll your rugs rather than fold, folding may cause permanent damage to the pile.
  • You can not store food, pot plans and hazardous materials in storage lockers for obvious reasons.
  • Hazardous materials include: Gas bottles, paint thinners, petrol and cleaning fluids.
  • Leave your fridge doors open, if closed you will have mold issues.
  • Disassemble furniture to save space.

Above all remember “If it fits in a box, put it in a box”

If you are stuck on where to start for your storage needs please contact us via our website or phone 09 415 4222 for our unit sizes and prices.
